Plan to develop arterial roads

A detailed project report for improvement and development of arterial and sub-arterial roads in the new zones of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) costing Rs 2,350 crores has been submitted to the State government.


The roads to be developed in the new zones are Rajarajeshwarinagar, Bommanahalli, Mahadevapura, Bytarayanapura and Dasarahalli, which will amount to about 494 kms across the city.
The other major infrastructure projects are construction of an elevated road on Mysore Road from Sirsi Circle to Kengeri, an elevated corridor along JC Road from Minerva Circle to Hudson Circle, an elevated corridor from Yeshwantpur Circle to 10th Mile Tumkur Road, construction of grade separator at Chennamma Circle, and a connecting road from Hosur Road to Bannerghatta Road near Lakshman Rao slum.
Construction of a vehicular underpass at the junction of Vatal Nagaraj Road and Chord Road Junction, Rajajinagar, underpass at the junction of 41st cross and 8th main road Shivanagar and Chord Road have also been proposed. Construction of 40 important railway under and over bridges is also in the agenda.

Skywalks with escalators along the proposed signal free corridors and other places, and construction of pedestrian subways are also proposed.
The project report for the improvement and development of lakes and parks in the BBMP jurisdiction has also been proposed with an allocation of Rs 1,000 crores. The BBMP has allocated Rs 1,300 crores to improve existing markets and to construct new markets in the new zones.

The proposal to construct an elevated viaduct from Madivala to Hebbal and Vellara junction to Kundanahalli will be implemented by the PPP model under Swiss Challenge.

12 Important Corridors
The 12 important roads that will be converted to signal free corridors to decongest the traffic in the central business district and outer ring roads are as follows.
Dr Rajkumar Road from Yeshwantpur to Okalipuram; Chord Road from Mysore Road Junction to CV Raman Road; Magadi Road from Chord Road to ORR; ORR from Mysore Road to Central Silk Board; Hosur Road from Central Silk Board to Vellara Junction; Bannerghatta Road from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to Wilson Garden; Old Airport Road from Vellara Junction to Whitefield via Kundlahalli; Agara Lake (ORR) to Sirsi Circle via Lalbagh Fort Road; City Centre to Kengeri via Sirsi Circle; Yeshwantpur Industrial Area to Hebbal; Corridor from Mekhri Circle to Hope Farm via Old Madras Road and Cubbon Road to ORR via Kamaraj Road, Buddha Vihar Road, Hennur Road.
