BANGALORE: Barely a couple of days after the Minister announced his plans to ban vehicular parking inside the park premises besides slapping an entry fee to restrict vehiclar traffic, a racket is being operated in the park by a few who are taking the horticulture department and the vehicle owners for a ride by allowing a parking inside the park and then collecting the money from public.
The road beside Chinnaswamy stadium towards the Minsk Square, has been turned into a large parking space for two wheelers. The lawn area is almost completely occupied with two wheelers from one end to the other. The lawn area is strictly forbidden for parking purposes as there is provision given for the same on the service road of Cubbon Park.
Unknown miscreants are even charging a nominal fee without an acknowledgement ticket for those parking on the lawn.
The parking related responsibility has been tendered to a private contractor for Rs 25 lakh per year but there seems to be some malpractice as parking is also allowed on green lawns. There was a rush of vehicles into the parking zone in the park due to semi final of the KPL that is being played in the stadium besides a continuation of the Ramzan festivities.
When contacted, Jagdish, Dy. Director, Cubbon Park, was unaware of this illegal parking racket and assured to look into the issue in addition to intensifying checking by hiring more personnel.
