BANGALORE: As heavy rains deluged Bangalore late on Wednesday, traffic in the city came to a grinding halt in several places. Trees and electric poles were uprooted, commuters were left stranded and vehicles including buses were submerged. However, no causalities were reported.
The rain which started around 10.30 pm continued till late in the night. A retaining wall of the Air Force Training Centre collapsed at the HMT Layout on the busy Bellary- Bangalore Road near Mekhri circle, while the nearby vegetable market was inundated. The water level at the Mekhri circle was so high that water started gushing inside the buses passing through the route. Vehicles were seen submerged in the water at the underpass at Mekhri Circle.
There were reports of trees being uprooted in several areas, including near MS Ramaiah College on the New BEL Road, while some trees fell on electric wires, disrupting power supply.
Meanwhile, there were reports of a truck overturning on the C V Raman Avenue near former chief minister Kumaraswamy’s guesthouse.
Almost all low lying areas in the city were affected as water gushed into several houses.
