Bangalore won’t get a US consulate

Bangalore: The US doesn’t plan to open a consulate in Bangalore. Instead, it’s planning to provide ‘virtual presence post’ through a website for visa-seekers from Karnataka.
US consul-general Andrew T Simkin told reporters on Monday, “There’s no prospect of opening another consul-general office in India” after the US opened one in Hyderabad in 2008. Facilities will be stepped up in Chennai.
Simkin said the interview time for visa applicants had been reduced to two days. There is no concern about the safety of US citizens living in Bangalore, Simkin said.
