Don’t park on M G Road

Don’t park on M G Road
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: The bustling M G Road fell silent on Tuesday after traffic police banned parking of four-wheelers there. Shoppers had to find other avenues to park their cars.
With the road between Anil Kumble Circle and Cubbon Road blocked for Metro work, traffic density on MG Road has increased. So the police decided to withdraw parking till Thursday to ease movement. The date may be changed depending on traffic volume.
On Tuesday, people avoided the route because of St Mary’s Feast at Shivajinagar. Additional commissioner of police (traffic and security) Praveen Sood said MG Road was taking vehicle pressure from both Anil Kumble Circle as well as Cubbon Road. “Parking on MG Road would have slowed down traffic movement. However, this is a temporary measure,’’ he said.
But this comes as a dampener for shopaholics, and this drive past is likely to continue for a few more days. The first casualties will be the showrooms. Manager of a leading suiting outlet, Narendra Bohra, said: “We did not see any customers today because of the ban.”
Said Rajath, at his newlyopened cooling zone: “Business is hampered and I hope the no-parking rule is lifted tomorrow.” Small businesses also thrive here — from panipuri wallahs to book-sellers and chappal stalls. “First the frequent showers hindered business, now this ban means a huge loss,” they say.
Few people walked down the hip street, and they were only employees of companies on the road, who occasionally ambled down for a smoke.
