CM inaugurates first TTMC

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday said the BJP government is committed to develop the City on par with international standards and give priority to infrastructural development.


Speaking after inaugurating the first Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) at Jayanagar 4th Block here, he said the government has directed all the departments to accord preference to infrastructural projects, including the metro rail project, lake development, construction of road, flyovers and underpasses.

“We have requested the Centre to include more mission cities (Tier II) and districts in the State under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM),” Yeddyurappa said.

Minister for Transport R Ashok said 200 new buses, funded under the JNNURM scheme, will be inducted into the fleet of the BMTC. On September 5, Union Minister Jaipal Reddy will launch the bus services, he added.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 12.90 crore, the TTMC in Jayanagar 4th Block is spread across 3,700 sq mtrs and has a total built-up area of 11,103 sq mtrs. The ground floor, spread across 2,604 sq mtrs, will house a bus terminal, while the first floor spread across 2,280 sq mtrs will house a BMTC office. The 2,739 sq mtr of terrace space will have public vehicle parking (60 four-wheelers) and 2,280 sq mtr for public utilities. Work on the TTMC began in February 2007, after demolition of the old bus stand opposite the BDA complex.

Nine more TTMCs

Works on construction of nine more BMTC-TTMCs - Banashankari, Vijayanagara, Koramangala, Shanthinagar, ITPL (Whitefield), Bannerghatta, Kengeri, Yeshwantpur and Domlur are underway and they will be completed by late 2010. The total cost of construction of these TTMCs is Rs 333 crore while Rs 166 crore has been released under the JNNURM scheme for the project.
