Traffic comes to a halt again
The downpour in the wee hours of Monday hampered traffic as officegoers were stranded on the water-logged roads.
Vehicles were stuck on four arterial roads — Bannerghatta Road, Mysore Road, Old Madras Road and Hosur Road. Traffic jams on these stretches connecting to the city centre led to slow vehicular movement even on many adjacent roads.
Waterlogging on Bannerghatta Road — near Jayadeva flyover — and Mysore Road — near Nayandahalli — led to the pile-ups. Tree-falls, too, forced many commuters take diversions. But lack of directions made them go in circles, only causing more bottlenecks.
Traffic was moving at a snail’s pace on Bannerghatta Road for over one-and-a-half hours — from 9 am to 10.30 am. The situation affected Hosur Road too, where vehicles were piled up as far as Johnson Market.
Shilpa D, a management professional from JP Nagar 5th Phase, had an appointment at 10.30 am. “I started towards Race Course Road around 9.45 am, thinking 45 minutes would suffice. However, it took more than one-and-a-half hours,” she said.
