Police all geared up to deal with any trouble
Bangalore, DH News Service:
With pro-Kannada organisations having called for a Bangalore bundh to protest the unveiling of the Tiruvalluvar statue on Sunday, City police are not taking any chances.
They have put up an elaborate security ring around the statue and the RBANMS Grounds, where the inaugural event is to take place.
The Grounds and the Neelakantan Circle have been completely secured, and are out of bounds for trouble makers. Separate vehicle entry arrangements have been made for VIPs and State government vehicles.
Besides 16 police officers in the ranks of DCPs, 65 ACPs, more than 200 inspectors, 500 sub-inspectors and more than 1200 constables (Head Constables and Constables), have been deployed at the venue of the unveiling ceremony. Bomb detection squads and dog squads have also been pressed into service. Metal detectors have been installed at all entry/exit points. Meanwhile, police constables have also been posted at all sensitive and ultra-sensitive areas in the City, to prevent any trouble. Officials from the State intelligence will also keep a tab on rowdy-sheeters and persons known to commit trouble, said police sources. Additional commissioner of police (Law and Order), M R Pujar has also issued instructions to all police officers to carry their service revolvers, while constables will have been asked to carry their helmets and lathis. A rehearsal drill of the security arrangements in place was performed at RBANMS grounds on Saturday.
RPF takes guard
The Railway Police Force has taken precautions to tackle any disruption in train services or untoward incidents at railway stations, in light of the bandh call given by pro-Kannada organisations.
Chief Security Commissioner of South Western Railway Subash Chandra Mishra said additional forces of RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) will be deployed at Bangalore City and Cantonment railway stations.
“The Quick Response Team of RPF is always on the stand-by to tackle any emergencies and there is no need for any alarm,” Mishra added. Till Saturday evening, there had been no announcement of any train cancellations, he said.
