New twist to Brigade parking
New twist to Brigade parking
Bangalore, DH News Service:
Thursday, June 25, 2009
In a twist to the parking fiasco along Brigade Road, it is learnt that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), in the current circumstance, will not be able to renew the parking agreement with the Brigade Road Shop and Establishment Association (BSEA) due to protocols involved in sanctioning the license.
It is learnt that the parking licence renewal will not come under the Palike Commissioner’s purview, since the parking revenue under the agreement crosses the Rs 1 crore limit prescribed under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act. The contract could now be renewed only after the BBMP elections, sources said.
On the other hand, certain establishments and traders along Brigade Road have made a representation to the Palike not to renew the parking contract till a new general body to the Brigade Road Shops and Establishment Association (BSEA) was elected.
The BBMP had on June 19 2009 sent a notice to BSEA, stating that the Parking Agreement between the Palike and the Traders Association had lapsed and was thus illegal to collect the parking fee. Currently, parking along Brigade Road is free of charge.
