BANGALORE: The High Court has extended its interim order on cutting of trees in Lalbagh area for implementing the metro project in Bangalore, till June 5 (Friday).
A division bench headed by Justice V Gopal Gowda adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Hasiru Usiru. In the interim order, the court had ordered that metro should take permission from the tree officer of BBMP before cutting any trees. Now, this order is extended till Friday.
Meanwhile, Advocate General Udaya Holla argued that forming of metro stations in Lalbagh and Basavanagudi was a must and that the same would help a large number of commuters in those areas. BMRCL had acquired only 0.12 per cent of Lalbagh land (less than 12 guntas) and the government would preserve Lalbagh, the AG said. On the other hand, the petitioner said that before BMRCL implemented the project, it should fulfil conditions such as payment of compensation at market value.
In another petition, Justice Mohanshanthan Gowder reserved judgment on a petition challenging land acquisition for metro station at South End Circle.
