Residents oppose temple on road
esidents oppose temple on road
A narrow and busy stretch
connecting Ring Road will become a bottleneck if the temple is allowed
Residents of Aradhana Apartments in Kormangala are caught in a piquant situation. Although most of them are devotees, they resent the move to construct an unauthorised temple on the busy and narrow road below their apartment.
2nd Main Shinivagula, which runs through ST Bed Layout, connects to 80 Feet Road and Ring Road. It is heavily trafficked, especially during peak hours. The residents say that the construction of a temple on the road will create a bottleneck under their very nose.
Local residents are determined to oppose the construction of the temple. Although they complained to civil authorities about the issue, no action has been taken so far.
"A group is planning to build a temple here ignoring the road chaos it could lead to. Ours is a busy road and any additional structure on this narrow stretch will worsen the traffic congestion here. We won't be able to live in peace amid the dust and din raised in the process. Also we won't be able to move easily," said SV Krishnan, president of Aradhana Owners Association.
The area is not lacking in temples. There are already three serving the devotees.
"This road is a short-cut to HAL airport. Hence, there're too many vehicles moving on this road during morning and evening hours. Some slum-dwellers are contributing money to build a temple for Lord Subramanya near the apartment. This will only add to the traffic chaos. Let them construct the temple in some other area instead," said M Shivraju, a resident.
"We brought the issue to the civil authorities notice, but till now, they have not come to inspect the place," he said.
Civic authorities said they were not aware of the problem.
"I'm not aware of the issue. No one has approached me till now. Temple is a sensitive issue. I cannot take any immediate action. I'll go to the spot and inspect where the construction is proposed and ask the group to present the temple plan," said M Mobashareen, assistant executive engineer of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
"However, in this particular issue, I need a written statement from the residents expressing their resentment against the construction of the temple near their apartment. Till then, I cannot take any action," he said.
