Pedestrian subway inundated

BANGALORE: The newly-built pedestrian subway on Raj Bhavan Road was inundated after a part of the road caved in on Saturday. The police had a hard time managing traffic. Two large potholes were formed after the road caved in and the subway was filled with close to two-ft water and concrete.

One of the potholes was at a point where the roof of the subway and the road were joined, indicating a weak link somewhere.

However, BBMP officials said the road didn’t have any weak links and the problem was attended to immediately.

“The pothole was filled with water and concrete in the morning, and the problem was rectified by afternoon,” a BBMP engineer said.

Contract workers were the first to reach the spot. They began clearing the water and debris, after which BBMP engineers and workers reached there for inspection and repair. A traffic police official said that a major part of the road was blocked while the repairs were on, and traffic movement was slow.
