They came together to protest breaking of the Lalbagh wall

Emotions were high as hundreds of Bangaloreans came together at the Lalbagh west gate to protest against what they termed as, ‘encroachment of the last remaining green heritage’. Recently 500 meters of the compound wall was torn down to accommodate the upcoming Metro station and seven trees are to be felled for the project. “If they continue to refer to the Delhi metro, why don’t they build the metro underground. Heritage cannot be sacrificed because of short-sighted and corrupt politicians,” fumed Madhavi Iyengar, a protestor standing next to the ruins of the wall built by Tippu Sultan.
The police officials who were monitoring the situation did not allow Bangalore South Independent contestant Captain Gopinath to be part of the protest because his permission letter allowed him to be part of public gathering only from Lalbagh west gate to RV Teacher’s College. However, when the residents pointed out that the leader was indeed on RV Teachers’ College road, the officials came up with the most original explanation for their objection saying, “Sir, this is double road and the other side of the road is RV road and not this side.” But it was a triumph for the cause when the remaining group rebuilt a token wall of stones that had been knocked down. “Forget the speeches, this is our reply. You destroyed it. We will build it,” said 15-year-old Aditya Ashok, who was also part of the protest.
