Metro making city barren

Metro making city barren
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: With Namma Metro construction progressing fast, hundreds of trees will fall to the axe, adding to the city’s graying landscape.
According to an RTI application filed by Hasiru Usiru, a citizen’s movement, 323 trees will be chopped off on R V Road and many in the eco-sensitive zone of Lalbagh too. According to chief engineer,
Namma Metro, R R Doddihal: “We will cut trees only after due permissions are given. In Lalbagh, three trees have been cut, but these are small Nilgiri trees.” Hasiru Usiru campaigner Vinay Sreenivasa said: “Around 480 feet of Lalbagh’s wall has been demolished. It is a sacred place for nature lovers. It’s the only place in this urban jungle where people can go for nature walks and bird watching. We can’t believe they are destroying it. Pollution after Metro becomes operational will impact the entire habitat.”
The campaigners will organize a protest on Wednesday to protect Lalbagh.

Do protests make a difference ? BBMP is least concerned about citizens' protests. It breaks my heart to see the double road in Jayanagar being subjected to Metro work. I cant believe the avenue trees days are numbered.

Is there nothing we can do to save Lalbagh and our city? I think we need to start organizing protests on a bigger scale, almost like the ones that were held to demand justice in the Jessica Lal murder case. This is murder of Bangalore and we need to do everything we can to protect whatever is left of this beautiful city.

The 'garden city' tag doesnt apply to Bangalore anymore. This is the hottest summer we have faced in a decade. Metro work is defying nature and Bangaloreans are paying the price.
