They join hands, save phone lines

They join hands, save phone lines

Bangalore: Finally, it seems being rooted on better co-ordination has led to some progressive development. The current co-ordination between the BBMP and BSNL has helped save several thousand telecom lines from being damaged.
Road-widening work on Palace Road stretch, that has a total of 30 cables on either sides, started with strangled telecom lines. The mass felling of trees overnight by the BBMP disrupted several thousand BSNL lines, all due to lack of co-ordination between the two bodies.
However with the removal of the roots much of the problem has been sorted out. The excavation of the tree roots on this stretch now happens under the joint supervision of BBMP-BSNL teams. The BSNL team isolates the root and the root branches in advance so that when the root is removed by the BBMP, telephone cables are not disturbed in the process. Nearly roots of 10 trees have been isolated so far without affecting phone lines.
“There’s better co-ordination now from the BBMP engineering team,” say BSNL officials. The two have been working meticulously together now to avoid any major damage during the removal of the remaining 13 roots. (Three of which were successfully carried out on Wednesday.)
This on-field co-ordination has benefited cable service in important areas such as Akkipet, Chickpet, KG Road and Subash Nagar.
