BBMP's monsoon works reviewed

With the monsoon inching closer to Bangalore, the Commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Dr S Subramanya, on Saturday, reviewed the BBMPs preparedness to deal with any eventuality.

The Commissioner reviewed the action plan to deal with the monsoons, signs of which was witnessed by Bangaloreans over the last few days. Several trees had been uprooted and low-lying areas were affected, although the showers did not last long.

According to the BBMP sources, the Commissioner summoned a meeting of all the chief engineers, zonal commissioners and executive engineers.

The Commissioner directed all the officers to prepare a contingency plan at zonal level as well as the central level.


The officers were asked to strengthen the control room. There should be emergency vehicles with enough forces, which should be equipped with pumps, digging and cutting tools, welding and iron cutting machines.

Round the clock, there should be a gang of ten workers available at the zonal as well as at the central office.
The gang will consist of the BBMP, BESCOM, BWSSB, police, fire and forest department employees. The gang will have vehicles with ladder, pumps and other necessary tools.

Avoiding water-logging

All the zonal officers have been asked to identify the vulnerable points. Special instructions were given to avoid any problem related to water-logging in areas like Bandappa Colony, Bhadrappa Layout, Vaddarapalya, Kamakhya Layout and Basaveshwara Layout which was badly hit last year during monsoons.
