BBMP to get its share of BIA pie

BBMP's jurisdiction will include BIA, which means more revenue

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to extend the area under its jurisdiction to include the Bangalore International Airport (BIA) at Devanahalli. This will help the Palike earn Rs7-10 cr additionally in property tax alone.
BBMP administrator Dilip Rao and commissioner S Subramanya on Monday forwarded a proposal to the state government seeking the expansion of BBMP's jurisdiction to include the airport. Last week, BBMP officials discussed the issue with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry. A decision was then arrived at to include the airport under the purview of the Palike, official sources told DNA.
As of now, the BBMP's area ends at Bytaranayapura, and the airport falls within the jurisdiction of the Hunasamarana Halli Grama Panchayat.
The Palike has spent crores in ensuring connectivity from various points in the city. Once the airport comes under the jurisdiction of the BBMP, the Palike will also provide electricity and garbage disposal services in the area.
