Taxis and BMTC buses plying between Bangalore city and Devanahalli International Airport have been asked to take alternative routes for the smooth flow of traffic on Bellary Road during the Aero India-2009 at Air Force Station in Yelahanka.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-West) Panduranga H Rane said a meeting was held with 10 taxi operators including Meru, Easy, SRS, and KSTDC. BMTC officials also attended the meeting.
"We suggested three alternative routes for their benefit as well for the sake of other travelling public to and from the Bangalore International Airport. There were differences between the police, the taxi operators and BMTC officials at first. We were able to convince them to take advantage of the time and energy saved through the suggested routes," Rane said.
One of the routes is for motorists travelling between the city and airport from central, western and southern parts of the city. The motorists travelling from these areas will have to come to Mekhri Circle from there they will have to drive down to New BEL Road to reach BEL Circle.
From BEL Circle, they will have to move towards Mother Dairy, NS Palya and Rajanukunte to reach M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT) gate to reach Bellary Road. During their return journey, they can take the same route to reach Mekhri circle by entering the MVIT gate.
Another route is the Bagalur Cross-Thanisandra road. On the reverse direction on the same route, the taxis and buses can go to Devanahalli and from there to NH 207, to reach Hennur Road to join the Outer Ring Road on Hennur-Banaswadi Road junction.
The restrictions on the taxis and buses will be on between 6am to 10pm from February 11 to February 15.
