Metered parking, the ideal solution
37 of the 180 roads in the city were identified by the BBMP to have metered parking

BBMP said in its letter to the government seeking approval for metered parking that if parking was left free for all, it would lead to haphazard parking. Motorists may leave the car in parking lot for the whole day.
In July 2006, Palike identified 180 roads in the city where parking was to be regulated. Of these 180 roads, 37 were to have metered parking system. However, in November 2008, BBMP invited bids from trade organisations for 37 stretches where metered parking systems could be introduced.
The system now works like clockwork only on Brigade Road and Commercial Street. The response in other 35 stretches from trade organisations that could take up responsibility to implement metered parking was too poor.
The tender conditions stipulated that only the local trade bodies, not individuals, bid for metered parking. Palike council secretary VP Ikkeri, who was in charge of the task, said that this had resulted in unacceptable bids.
How it works
Press the green button, enter the last four digits of the vehicle, insert coin/s, and press the green button to get a ticket or a red button to cancel the operation, display the ticket on the dash board of the car.
Parking is available for a maximum period of two hours. If the motorist wants to extend the time he can do so by punching in the required number of coins into the machine. In case, time exceeds the limit that has been paid for, the car needs to be driven to another meter.
But if the exit time is not adhered to, the vehicle could be towed away. You can release it after paying Rs500 fine.
