Chee, chee, toilet! This is the response of Vyalikaval residents to the public toilet the BBMP has set up in the area. The unused Nirmala toilet, which is under lock for months now, seems to have become an eyesore for the residents.

The toilet, which had to come up at Bhashyam Circle, was shifted to Vyalikaval four years ago. BBMP’s decision to shift the toilet from the sanctioned location to Vyalikaval had met with stiff resistance.

Too many toilets

Residents opposed the plan saying Vyalikaval being a residential area it has enough number of toilets and there was no need for another public toilet. But a determined BBMP went ahead with its plan. However, poor water supply ensured the toilet remained locked.

N Suresh, a resident said, “Initially we requested the BBMP to reconsider its decision on setting up a toilet at the area. But, nobody paid attention. Now, the toilet is locked 24X7. Who is responsible for such waste of taxpayers’ money?”

BBMP Deputy Commissioner (Health) Venkateshappa seemed to have no clue about the entire issue. Bangalore Mirror tried to contact Devki Umesh, Health Officer (West), who is on leave, but in vain.
