I High Speed Rail Link will connect MG Road and BIA I
The Karnataka State Industrial Investment Development Corporation has finalised the route for a high speed rail link that will connect MG Road and Bengaluru International Airport.

Sources in the department told Deccan Chronicle that the route was finalised after Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, consultants for the Rs 3,500 crore project carried out a feasibility report.

The High Speed Rail Link (HSRL) from the City Centre to BIA, a distance of 34 km will be of double track and designed for speeds up to 150 kmph.

The lines will be elevated throughout, starting from Police Grounds, where Cubbon Road Station will be located. From here, this rail link will traverse Cubbon Road by the side of the Bangalore Metro Rail which will be underground at this location.

It will then cross over Minsk Square underground station of Bangalore Metro Rail and continue along the Bangalore Metro alignment up to Thimmaiah square. At this location the BMR takes a left turn and the HSRL moves straight on up the Raj Bhavan Road.

Further ahead, the alignment takes a right-hand curve to Chowdaiah Road. From here the alignment will be on the median of Chowdaiah Road/Sankey Road/Bellary Road up to the approach of Hebbal Flyover.

The HSRL will fly over the existing Road Over Bridge and Railway Bridge near Windsor Manor Hotel and the Mekhri Cricle Underpass Bridge. So also, the HSRL alignment will be taken alongside the flyovers/underpasses built and being built recently by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

The High Speed Rail Link will then be taken on the right side of Hebbal Flyover. The second check-in station at Hebbal has been located at the end of Hebbal Flyover on the right side on government land.

The state has planned the integration of bus services by the side of this area on the right side of the flyover. Due to easy access from the Ring Road this station is expected to attract large scale commuters. From here the alignment is taken on the right side divider between the main carriage way and the service road facing Devanahalli of the National Highway No-7. It traverses over the railway underbridge and then to Yelahanka pickup station.

The Yelahanka pick-up station will be located on the right side near the junction of the National Highway and the Yelahanka Town Road. Check-in facilities are not provided here but passengers with hand baggage can board the train and alight with baggage. The alignment is continued on the right side divider between the main carriage way and the service road of the NH-7 as elevated until it reaches short of the trumpet junction joining NH-7 and the Airport approach road.

From here onwards the alignment runs parallel to the BIA approach road to reach the Terminal building T-1 of BIAL. Provision has been kept to extend the HSRL to Terminal II of BIAL when it is constructed.

BIAL Terminal Station facilitates the air passengers to get down and move on to the security lounge in respect of those passengers who have already checkedin. The checked-in luggage will be handled by the airport authorities to send them on to their destinations.

cat The City Airport Terminal (CAT) will be put up around the Bangalore Metro ramp. The two systems are totally isolated, and at the same time, are integrated together. The CAT structure will be multi storied with separate departure and arrival areas. Initially, it will have 60 checkin counters for international passengers and another 60 for domestic passengers with provision to increase their numbers to cater to future demand. Provision is also being made for facilities such as Airline Ticketing Offices, CAT and Rail Line Offices, Shopping Arcade, Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Rest Rooms, etc. There will be adequate parking facilities for private cars, taxis, autos etc. The Complex will have about 1,800 parking capacity for “park and fly’ passengers.
