Misery on Mallya Road

Misery on Mallya Road
Bangalore, DHNS:
Roads without asphalt, potholes, open drainage pipes, sewage overflowing on to the road are all familiar stories on Bangalores roads.

This time around, it is the upmarket and most sought after areas in Bangalore, whose residents are fed up with BBMP’s road works and are making an effort to raise a voice.

Vittal Mallya road boasts of non asphalted roads and dug out pavements without warning sign boards. The main outlet of the drainage pipe remains covered with muck, at the opposite side of the road, the pavement has been dug and filled with filthy black water. Rods project out of the pavements, their sharp edges preying on unsuspecting pedestrians.

A similar plight is what the residents of Walton road face. A narrow road, a part of this stretch is dug out and overflowing sewage on to the pavements is a prime area of concern of the residents.

Residents say that the work remains incomplete due to an existing problem between the BBMP and the concerned contractors. With no resolution of their problems, the residents fume that they have to suffer as a consequence.

The story is similar on Lavelle road. Two manholes at the junction of the road, overflow almost every fortnight complain the residents. No amount of complaints have failed to rectify the problem.

Residents grumble that they pay enormous amounts of money to be housed in these upscale localities, located so close to the central business district.

But in terms of basic infrastructure, their areas are as deplorable a state as any other part of the city.
