Bengalureans will have to reach for their woollens soon with the weatherman forecasting sudden drizzles and cold conditions in the next 24 hours in the city.

In the last week, the maximum temperature in Bengaluru has fallen three degree Celsius with Sunday recording a maximum of 26.6 degree.

On November 10, the maximum was 29.6 degree. The Met office attributed the change in weather conditions to the cyclone, “Khaimuk.” “Khaimuk was active on the Andhra coast since November 13 and evolved into a deep depression over the sea before it could cross Rayalseema. Thought the cyclonic effect is less now, rains and a dip in the mercury are likely in the city,” said a senior meteorologist from the Indian meteorological department on Palace Road. The Indian meteorological department has also predicted heavy rainfall in north interior Karnataka in the coming days. The lack of North East monsoon showers is said to be another reason for the chill in Bengaluru. Meteorologists said that most parts of south interior Karnataka including Bengaluru experience heavy rainfall during the North East monsoon which usually begins in October. “City receives about 64.5 mm on an average in November but so far there has been no rain. If the cyclone intensifies, Bengaluru can expect heavy showers shortly,” the meteorologist added.
