The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation will shortly augment its fleet with 2,000 luxury ‘Marcopolo’ buses to provide world class public transport. Two such buses will be flagged off on Sunday on a trial basis.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will flag off the fully air-conditioned, lowfloor luxury buses targeted at upscale Bengalureans.

The 45-seater ‘Marcopolo’ is priced at Rs 55 lakh as against Rs 70-lakh Volvo bus. Its operating cost too is lower than Volvo, so tariff rates for Marcopolo buses will be lower, providing an intermediate option between ordinary buses and Volvos. After the success of Volvos, the BMTC has planned to convince software companies and other private enterprises to use Marcopolo buses.
