BANGALORE: Art of Living (AoL) plans to plant one thousand saplings on Jnana Bharathi campus of Bangalore University.
The plantation drive is part of ‘Mission Green Earth,’ a joint initiative of AoL, United Nations Millenium Campaign (UNMC) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), according to a press release.
These organisations will plant 100 million saplings across the globe by July 2009. It also aims to mobilise 100 million people to stand up across the globe between October 17 and 19, 2008.
The initiative has targeted planting of 2.5 million saplings in India, of which 50,000 will be in Karnataka. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of AoL and Minister for Higher Education Aravind Limbavali planted a few saplings on Monday on the BU campus.
Planting 2.5 million saplings in India will be jointly done by the Indian army, Border Security Force, NGOs, educational institutions and corporates.
