Some properties on M.G. Road left out, says a petitioner
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned several cases relating to acquisition of land and buildings in the city for the Bangalore Metro Rail project.
The court continued its interim orders, directing the authorities not to dispossess the petitioners of their lands and buildings.
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh passed the orders on petitions by residents and traders of Chinmaya Mission Hospital Road, South End Circle in Basavanagudi, Mahatma Gandhi Road and Bayappanahalli.
In the first petition, S. Madhav, a resident of C.M.H. Road in Indiranagar, R. Venkatachala and 13 others of Murphy Road, Anjaneya Temple Street and Ulsoor had petitioned the court against the action of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) in going ahead with the metro project on C.M. H. Road.
They said the BMRCL had started digging trenches at several places. They said the traffic on the metro would be much more if the alignment was shifted from C.M.H. Road to Old Madras Road.
In another petition, B.V. Nagesh, B.V. Jagadeesh, T.S. Prameela and M. Padmavathi, all residents of Lady Curzon Road challenged the BMRCL action in acquiring their properties n Bayappanahalli on Old Madras Road.
C.D. Medappa and his wife Indira Medappa questioned the action of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in acquiring their residential property in Craig Layout on Mahatma Gandhi Road for putting up a station for Bangalore metro.
Shravani Property Ltd., which had purchased Plaza cinema building on Mahatma Gandhi Road for Rs. 26 crore, too challenged the acquisition of the building for the metro project. They alleged that several other buildings in the vicinity were deliberately left out of the acquisition proceedings by the KIADB. Prema Vijayarangam of C.M.H. Road and several business establishments such as Soumya Silks and Sarees, Suresh Footware, Bombay Tailors, Aroma Bakery, Jyothy Bakery and K.K. Computers had challenged the acquisition of their buildings for the metro project.
In another petition, M.A. Lakshmidevamma and Lakshmi Builders had challenged a notification by the KIADB seeking to take over their building on R.V. Road in Basavanagudi.
All the petitioners had urged the court to stay the acquisition of their building.
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh, in his interim order, directed the authorities not to dispossess the petitioners from their lands or buildings and adjourned hearing on the case.
