For those motorists traversing on MG Road and getting stuck in the perennial traffic jams, there’s good news.

The barricades erected for the ‘Namma Metro’ project will be removed in phases for free movement of vehicles, within the next six months.

Announcing this on Saturday, N Sivasailam, the MD of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said four to six months will be required to complete construction of piers and ducts from Anil Kumble Circle to Trinity junction (Reach One).

“We will remove the barricades along the MG Road stretch in phases. BMRCL will need four to six months to complete construction of piers. Thereafter, the pre-fabricated girders will have to be placed atop the piers. Once this is through, we will remove the barricades. We are progressing on schedule and adhering to time frame,” he said.

Tender process

Mr Sivasailam also added that the immediate task of the BMRCL is to clear the time consuming tender process, that involves technical and financial bids for construction of metro rail stations, depots and rolling stock (train coach) by November 2008. He further said Namma Metro will complete the project work on CMH Road, Indiranagar in eight months from now.

The BMRCL that has called for tenders to construct the massive stations for the project will commence construction of the Halasuru and Old Madras Road stations on November 16, CMH Road and Byappanahalli stations on December 23 and the M G Road Plaza and Trinity junction stations on December 23, 2008.
