WELCOME to the NEW WARDS
S Kushala & Anil Kumar M | TNN

Bangalore: In the coming months, you will see the boards of your wards re-painted. Boards with ward names like Yelahanka, Yelahanka Satellite Town, Bagalakunte, Shettihalli, Singapura, Tindlu, Virupakshapura, Byatarayanapura, Agrahara, Horamavu, HBR Layout, Nagawara and Anandnagar will appear on various main and cross-roads of your areas.
The delimitation has included little pockets of erstwhile CMCs, TMC and 110 villages around the city in Greater Bangalore with a majority of the 147 wards notified by the government falling under them.
Some of the organizations/areas which were landmarks all these years have turned into wards. The Indian Institute of Science will be a new ward now,
falling under Malleswaram assembly segment and comprising localities such as Vyalikaval, Swimming Pool Extension, IISc campus, Sankey tank and parts of Malleswaram.
The boundaries are, to the north, IISc compound, MS Ramaiah Road, Cross Road, 6th A Main Road.
The list of all 147 wards, with important areas falling under them and the boundaries, has been put out in the government draft notification notified recently. A month has been given to the citizens to file objections to or suggestions about the delimitation.
The main connectivity corridor of the city — West of Chord Road — is now a new ward, having under it Rajajinagar industrial suburb, parts of Geleyara Balaga Layout, WoC Road II Stage I Block, Rajajinagar I Block, Bovipalya, MG Nagar, Kethamaranahalli and parts of Mahalakshmi Layout.
The government has identified a major chunk of wards in old urban local bodies — Hoody, KR Puram, Kadugodi, Devasandra, Benniganahalli, Mahadevapura, Doddanekundi, Whitefield, Vimanapura, Kengeri Satellite Town, Hemmigepura, Uttarahalli, Bellandur, Gunjur, Bommanahalli, Sarakki, Sarbandepalya, Yelachenahalli, Jaraganahalli, Chunchaghatta, Bilekahalli, Hulimavu, Gottigere, Channakeshavanagar and Yeshwantpur.

In tune with new assembly segments
Redrawn in tune with the new assembly constituencies — the existing 16 have increased to 28 segments in Bangalore Urban (only 27 assembly segments come under BBMP limits, Anekal excluded) — the delimitation has been carried out as per the 2001 census population — 58,40,155. A total of 349 wards from BMP, CMCs, TMC and 110 villages have been integrated to form 147 wards.
The authorities used GIS maps of 211 sqkm of old BMP area with 43.13 lakh population, and 500 sqkm of CMCs, TMC and villages with population of 15 lakh to redraw the wards. Each segment will have 2-7 wards with average population of 40,277.
While the highest population per ward is 47,000, the lowest is 30,000. The biggest ward is 32 sqkm; the smallest is 0.44 sqkm.
