Infrastructure not visible: FKCCI

Infrastructure not visible: FKCCI
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Bangalore Metropolitan Land Transport Authority (BMLTA) might have a number of plans to provide seamless connectivity to traffic wary Bangaloreans, but ground realities present a sorry state of affairs, with no visible difference.

This observation was made by members of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) on Thursday. FKCCI president D Muralidhar, while responding to a presentation on measures being undertaken by BMLTA by Gaurav Gupta, Special Secretary to the State Government, said that while presentations looked good, it is not visible in real terms.

In response Gupta said, “It is true that creation of infrastructure in urban areas is highly complicated when compared to a green field project.”

Issues concerning utility lines haunt infrastructure projects, particularly in a city like Bangalore which does not have roads alternative to each other he added. Earlier he said BMLTA was the unified mass transport agency, coordinating between various stake holders right from civic agencies to transport corporations, created under the National Urban Transport Policy, 2006.

Measures taken

Formed in March 2007 and headed by the chief secretary, BMLTA has so far held three rounds of meetings ensure easy connectivity in the City. A few short term measures undertaken include decongesting Majestic, easing congestion at Benniganahalli and Hessarghatta Junction on Tumkur Road.

BMLTA is keen on popularising public transport, encouraging non-motorised transport including bicycle and walking. In 15 years, Bangalore Metropolitan Land Transport Authority will coordinate execution of various infrastructure projects worth Rs 46,944 crore in Bangalore, he added.
