Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has speeded up the works on road widening using transfer of development rights (TDR).

Palike had identified 91 roads for widening of which 45 are being taken in the first phase.

BBMP officials said that, the response for TDR has improved. TDR is a tool under which the government acquires land for road widening without paying any monetary compensation.

Instead, Palike grants the owner of the property 150 per cent of land area surrendered in terms of increased floor area ratio (FAR). This is issued in the from of development rights certificates (DRC) which can even be traded. The builders have shown special interest in additional FAR thus available, officials said.

Bellary Road, Palace Road, Seshadri Road, Nrupatunga Road, Hosur Luskar Road, Kasturba Road, Race Course road and Jayamahal Road would be completed by December, said officials.
