Nov 1 opening for Freedom Park

Nov 1 opening for Freedom Park
First phase of the Freedom Park, coming up on land where the central jail was located before it was shifted to the city outskirts, will open on November 1.
The phase, being built at a revised estimated cost of Rs 10.27 crore, is nearing completion and will be ready by October, public works minister C M Udasi said on Tuesday.
Mooting that the new park be named after former CM R Gundu Rao, Congress member R Roshan Baig said it was disappointing the park, situated just half a kilometre from Vidhana Soudha, had not been completed even nine years after the jail was relocated.
Plans for the Freedom Park were finalized as early as in 2003. The park was proposed as a memorial for freedom fighters and as a green space. The delay led to an escalation in the project cost.
