BANGALORE: It took a downpour to get the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into action.
After Sunday evening, when rains lashed the city for over four hours, the BBMP Commissioner called for a meeting with the officials concerned, prepared a list of programmes and instructed them to take immediate action.
With heavy rains expected to continue for the next few days, BBMP is all set with a Pourakarmika team, led by the BBMP officials concerned and mobile Prahari vans, which will be sent to the worst-affected areas.
The team will clear water logging, failing which immediate action will be taken against the officials. The zonal-level officials, who have been asked to attend to the water logging problem immediately, are now on a high alert.
Emergency fund
The Commissioner has directed the officials to release the emergency fund when required. An emergency fund of Rs 50 crore has been set aside, which the officials may use based on the requirement.
Litter menace
Littering the roads will be a serious offence hereafter, if the BBMP implements its decision to fine offenders.
BBMP health officials on routine checks can fine those littering the roads. However, according to BBMP sources, the fine amount is yet to be decided.
The public may contact the BBMP helpline numbers and zone offices to register their complaints.
