Urgent: Emergency protest on Palace Road tree-felling tomorrow 25th, 1.00 PM

Dear Friends of Trees,

Kanishka has given an alarming bit of info below that the stately and magnificent trees on Palace Road are going to be axed VERY SOON, PROBABLY TONIGHT! Only our presence in large numbers there tomorrow is going to save them (if they are going to be there tomorrow, that is)! ESG is trying to get Justice Sadashiva, L.V. Sharada, Girish Karnad, Girish Kasaravalli and others to come to Maharani's College Circle tomorrow at 1.00 PM. We will inform the press to also be there.

ESG has found out through RTI that the land belonging to the Chief Justice's house on this road has not yet been acquired. So it is blatantly illegal to widen the road while the land transfer has not yet happened. In that case, why cut the trees first? It appears this is being done on the orders of the CM himself to the Tree Officer of BBMP at a meeting a few days ago, despite the Chief Secretary stating that there is a PIL on the issue.

I urge all of you to mobilise as many people as possible and make it to the Maharani's College Circle at 1.00 PM during your lunch break tomorrow, 25th June, without fail! If you could make it on a Sunday morning to save the Agara lake in such numbers, you can do it again to save the lovely trees of Bangalore too! Please show that you care and that you can do it!

Looking forward to see you all there.
