Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has appealed to corporate houses to join hands with the government to restore to Bengaluru its tag of “Garden City.” Speaking at the inaugural session of “Clean Air Summit — A roadmap towards a clean India” here on Wednesday, Mr Yeddyurappa said environmental initiatives and traffic management should go hand in hand to bring pollution levels in Bengaluru under control.

“I have directed the police department to come out with clear measures to manage traffic in the city. It is important for corporate houses to be part of initiatives taken for the benefit for the citizens,” he said at the summit organised by Bosch.

In response to the Chief Minister’s comments, Bosch vice-president (engineering and application) Gerhard Ziegler said the German company, with several Indian subsidiaries including Mico, is environmentally responsible and manufactures energy efficient equipment.

Speaking to reporter about the forest portfolio, the Chief Minister said the forest portfolio will allotted to a minister after the conclusion of the first legislative session under the new government.

Mr Yeddyurappa currently holds the forest portfolio.

The three-day session ends on June 26.

“I am holding meetings with officials of the forests department. I am in touch with forest officers and anything needed for the maintenance of protected areas in the state will be provided by the government,” Mr Yeddyurappa said.
