Bangalore: The Bangalore Agenda Task Force (BATF) example showed, at times, that it’s not quite a smooth ride when government officials and private sector representatives are on one administrative platform. Even with the government’s subsequent initiatives like infrastructure committees, it was hard to miss the underlying friction between the public and private partners, when it came to implementation of the proposed works.
The conditioning of two models of functioning — of the government officials and the private sector — to each other could be a starting point for a high-level task group for Bangalore. The chairperson, with no political or personal interests to nurse, can be the face of the task group.
The presence of independent experts who bring in knowledge from other cities and a
spokesperson who voices the collective decisions of the body and do away with the internal friction can give the task group an definite edge, according to representatives of city-based civic groups.
