Bangalore: Hebbal Lake, one of the city’s most popular waterbodies, looks set to regain its lost glory. A sewage treatment plant is being set up, and desilting and de-weeding work will begin.
The lake was handed over by Lake Development Authority (LDA) to East India Hotels Ltd (EIH), the parent company of the Oberoi group, for development under public-private partnership. The work is estimated to cost Rs 16.5 crore. “The lake is choked by weeds in some places. Steps are being to improve the water level and quality. The work will be completed in three months,’’ said an EIH official.
The BDA has begun work on a wall around the stormwater drain. Sewage flowing from nearby areas will be diverted to the STP and the treated water will be let into the lake. The 161-acre lake is also being fenced. Four hundred trees will be planted and an idol-immersion tank will be constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.
