Rain brings traffic to a standstill

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Commuters on Nrupathunga Road will never forget Friday evening. They were stuck for a long time as a huge tree got uprooted in front of the residence of the DG and IGP, damaging two cars and throwing traffic out of gear.
Policemen had a tough time diverting traffic amidst the rain. Traffic was diverted through Cubbon Park and BBMP gangmen had to toil over an hour to clear the uprooted tree.
The rain poured woes in several other areas too. Water accumulated at the magic-box underpass at Cauvery junction for a while. Two trees came crashing down at Ram Mandir in Rajajinagar and Madhavanagar near Shivananda Circle.
People returning home after the day’s work had a nightmarish experience. Water was stagnated on some of the busy roads like K G Road, Cunningham Road, MG Road, Brigade Road, Bull Temple Road and K R Road.
Sewage water entered at least 30 houses and sumps at 12th A Cross, HAL II Stage due to an overflowing stormwater drain. Sabeer N, a resident, said that repeated complaints to BWSSB control room have fallen on deaf ears. “Residents of HAL 2nd Stage have been forced to put up with the stench. It may also lead to a breakout of epidemics,” he said.
The city recorded a rainfall of 14.4 mm while airport received 6 mm rainfall. The premonsoon showers are likely to continue till the month-end.
