At last, BDA surface pass will open partially today
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The surface pass constructed by BBMP at the BDA junction will be open for vehicular movement on Wednesday evening.

The Palike began the construction of surface pass on March 2 and took 80 days to complete the project. However, the Commissioner in a press conference in January had said that the surface pass at the BDA junction would be completed in 45 days.

BBMP Chief Engineer (Major Roads) K S Krishna Reddy said the asphaltation will be over by Wednesday morning. Vehicles will be allowed towards the evening on the same day. There will be no formal function to mark the inauguration of the surface pass.

He said the work was delayed due to rains and the Assembly elections in the State.

“During the elections it was difficult to get workers, as they were busy in campaigning. However,we have been able to complete the project in 80 days considering all these difficulties. It is not a small achievement. If the conventional method was adopted the project would have taken not less than three years for completion. Moreover, within these 80 days the Palike has begun construction of underpasses at Anand Nagar junction and Cunningham Road junction,” he said.

As many as 30 pre-cast elements have been used for the surface pass. Once vehicles are allowed on the surface pass, vehicle riders can move without halting from the Windsor Manor junction to the CBI junction.
Also, the Palike has taken up construction of underpasses at all junctions using pre-cast technology along the Bellary Road, to make it a signal-free road for the benefit of those travelling towards the International Airport in Devanahalli.

First of its kind
The underpass constructed at the Cauvery junction was opened for vehicles on February 20. The Palike took more than a month to complete the work. The Commissioner had announced to complete it in three days. It was the first underpass constructed using pre-cast technology in the city. Moreover, the work of underpass at Anand Nagar junction is nearing completion.
