BASAVANAGUDI

Total voters: 2,22,016
Men: 1,14,936
Women: 1,07,080
BBMP wards: Srinagar, Hanumanthanagar, Basavanagudi, Srinivasanagar

Basavanagudi assembly constituency is one of the high profile constituencies of Bangalore City. A majority of voters in the constituency are educated and for any candidate it is difficult to woo them by making false promises.
Neither caste nor money can lure voters here. Issues that can figure in poll campaign are commitment to development works and personality of the candidate.

There is no major changes in the poll-profile of the constituency. In the previous elections Basavanagudi had Vishweshwarapuram and Gandhi Bazaar. However this time, both these areas have been replaced by Srinivasanagar ward. Compared to Vishweshwarapuram the newly added Srinivasanagar lacks basic amenities.

Former Mayor K Chandrashekhar, who won from the constituency in the previous elections is confident of getting the Congress ticket this time too. He has started campaigning even before the party finalise its list of candidates.
The BJP has decided to field Ravi Subramanya from the constituency.

The JD(S) has not yet finalised its candidate for the constituency. Former JD(S) MLA from Sakaleshpura H M Vishwanath is trying to contest on the JD(S) ticket from Basavanagudi.
