Construction of Halasuru metro station to begin soon

As construction work of the 'Namma Metro' seems to be chugging along according to schedule, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to announce the tender work awards of the Halasuru and Old Madras Road stations at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore each...


Disclosing this to Deccan Herald on Tuesday, V Madhu, the Managing Director of BMRC, said tenders will called soon with the demolition of the first public property completed at the old police quarters .

He added, “Eighteen percent of all physical construction work has been completed as per schedule. We will be proceeding to begin construction of the metro stations at Halasuru and Old Madras Road, 45 days from now.

Another 19 percent will be completed by the financial year 2008-09 by next April”

BMRCL will be awarding each selected contractor construction of two stations each on Reach 1. Four consortia have been shortlisted for awarding construction of the Halasur station.

Property acquisition

“We are also satisfied with the pace of private property acquisition. In the case of a total of 110 properties notified for acquisition, proceedings are also on accordingly. As we have already deposited Rs 200 crore to the KIADB, 25 property owners who have come forward have been compensated. This process is expected to completed by June,” he said

BMRCL officials explained that demolition of two private properties on 100ft Road, Indiranagar is also over to facilitate barricading and commencement of pile and viaduct construction from the eastern side. The foundation stone of the Byappanhalli metro depot and road widening on Old Madras Road on defence land are also progressing well, they said.

Pier construction

BMRCL would also go on to the next stage of construction activity on MG Road beginning June, with concrete pillars scheduled to come up followed by laying of pre-cast segment on the pillars in October . “Our plan is to get out of the show piece of the City by December and commence project works in Reach 2, 3 and 4 (Southern, Northern and Western) parts of the City” added Mr Madhu.

The BMRCL board that met has also approved extension of the metro link from Peenya to Hesaraghatta Cross on Reach 3.
