Aspirants throw traffic out of gear

Aspirants throw traffic out of gear
DH News Service, Bangalore:

It was chaos, chaos and chaos all through the Queens Road on Wednesday morning. The discredit of making the travelling public fume and fret goes to the Congress leaders and workers.

With hundreds of ticket seekers and their supporters thronging the Congress Bhavan and some of them resorting to dharna to press their demand, there was virtually a chaotic scene at the party office.

The traffic movement was severely affected following parking of hundreds of vehicles by the leaders on the Queens Road as well as adjoining roads around party office. Long queues of vehicles were seen up to Cantonment Railway station.

The inconvenience caused to the public made KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge to tender an apology. “A large number of workers have turned up though we had told them that ticket selections would be done mainly on the basis of reports submitted by the observers who visited different constituencies and had appealed to the party workers not to come to the office seeking ticket. I tender my apology to the public for the inconvenience caused. That’s why we are shifting our meeting to a resort outside the City,” he added.

The entrance to the KPCC office was blocked by women activists of KPCC. Led by MLC Mallajamma, former mayor Mumtaz Begaum, former MLC Jalaja Naik and others, the women sat on the stairs of KPCC office and raised slogans demanding that at least one seat be given to women candidate in every district.

The arrival of AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan and senior leader Vyalar Ravi at the party office added to the chaotic scene.

Lots of ticket aspirants jostled and shoved to catch the attention of leaders and also to hand over memorandum to them.

The scene changed around noon after the top leaders left for a resort on Bannerghatta Road to confabulate on finalising party tickets. Aspirants throw traffic out of gear
