BKC, BBMP Commissioner inspect new airport work

BKC, BBMP Commissioner inspect new airport work
DH News Service, Bangalore:

The chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council Prof B K Chandrashekhar along with BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya and other officials visited BIA on Monday to review the progress made at Devanahalli airport.

They also inspected the ongoing underpass works enroute.

Engineers of Larsen and Toubro (L and T) said that about 95 per cent work of the trumpet interchange flyover loop on the road to Devanahlli is complete.

“The deadline to complete the work was originally scheduled for March 28. It will now be ready by April 7. The road asphalting work will also be over in time, well ahead of the airport opening. The postponement of the airport opening has given us a breather,” they said.

Rail link

Principal Secretary (Infrastructure, Commerce and Industry) V P Baligar said the special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement the high speed rail link to Devanahalli has been established.

“Talks with the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) over the alignment of the elevated rail is being discussed. There are different views. Some engineers are in favour of only one of the two, while others are suggesting alternative alignments. We do not want the alignment of the high speed rail link to clash with the elevated rail. We are committed to having the high speed rail to get going soon. Work could begin in about nine months,” Mr Baligar indicated.

Underpass works

BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya said the BDA junction underpass will be thrown open for vehicle movement at the earliest.

Chief Engineer (Major Roads) Krishna Reddy said BBMP hopes to complete the signal-free junction at BDA by April 15. “The Anand Nagar junction works will be completed in a week’s time,” he said.
