BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has ensured last mile connectivity for passengers to Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) with the announcement of a tie-up with taxi drivers.

BMTC, Managing Director Upendra Tripathy announced on Wednesday that BMTC will be tying up with taxi service providers to pick passengers from their respective residences and drop them to the nearest Vajra buses, which will proceed to the airport.

“A single ticket will be issued by the taxi driver for the entire trip which will cover the cost of BMTC bus and the taxi service.”

Initially 800 taxis will be used for this service and drivers will undergo a training programme. Each taxi will be equipped with a GPS service, enabling easy identification of the nearest Vajra buses. Every step will be taken to ensure seamless connectivity, said Tripathy.

Tripathy was speaking on the occasion of the BMTC being presented with the ‘Citizen Extraordinaire Award, 2008’ instituted by the Prestige Group and Rotary Bangalore Midtown.

D Thangaraj, Chairman, BMTC, spoke about the need to rationalise Motor Vehicle Tax and the need for more Public Private Partnerships.
