Bangalore needs two airports now

Asimple solution to solve the crisis is to allow the existing airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad to continue for shorthaul operations of less than one hour of flying time.
Passengers will be happy to pay Rs 200-500 per journey for using the existing airports, which can be handed over to the proposed international airports for compensating them for the loss of revenue. All segments of society will benefit. The cost and time involved to go to BIA, traffic congestion and pollution will be reduced. The HAL facility will be utilized.
Bangalore needs two airports. In fact, HAL Airport should be modernized and expanded on the Belandur tank-side with access from Sarjapur Road.
But we do not like simple solutions, as was remarked by an Indonesian administrator, who said: “We are progressing much faster than India, because being buddhus we go for simple solutions for complex problems, while you, being brilliant, go for complex solutions even for simple problems.’’
The Devanahalli location was totally wrong. It benefited only those who purchased land before the committee came into being. I had convinced two ministers of civil aviation, the chairman of the Airports Authority of India and a group of Karnataka MPs that the location should be near Ramanagaram so that distance can be halved, and the Bangalore-Mysore corridor can be developed and Bangalore decongested.

This is my suggestion w.r.t to faster access to the BIAL from the Bangalore City.
The suggestion is as follows :
1) Once every 2 hours , block the entire stretch of road from Mekhri Circle to BIAL ( on NH7 ).
2) During this 30 minutes , some 20 to 25 Volvo Buses can drive to the Airport at a speed of 130Kmph (approx.) like a Convoy. THis is similar to what is being done in the North-Eastern states.People will get used to this schedules.
3) After the 30 mins , the roads will be opened to regular traffic as usual.
4) This will ensure that once every 2 hours , there is a possibility of reaching the airport within 30 mins.
5) The blocking of traffic is not new to Bangalore, as this is done regularly for the Trucks on the Outer Ring Road ( between 5PM to 9PM). Similar step can be taken.
6) However in this case the entire traffic on that road should be blocked ( as is done for VVIPs )
This can be a temporary solution to reach BIAL faster (within 30 mins ) from the City Centre.

Very true and well said. Unfortunately it should have occured to those who signed the papers for BIAL... The agreements will undoubtedly have penalty clauses with arbitration in London (like Dabhol/Enron)...
