Airport road works to be completed in time

Commuters to the Bengaluru International Airport can heave a sigh of relief as road connectivity which is the major constraint will set right before the inauguration of the airport.
The State Government has assured the visiting Civil Aviation Ministry team that all pending road works connecting the airport will be completed before the inaugural date of March 28.
V P Baligar, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure told Deccan Herald that the State government has briefed the visiting team headed by Civil Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla about the timely completion of pending works.
“The trumpet interchange being built on National Highway 7 to connect it with Devanahalli would be ready by March 27. Besides, the road widening work on the Bellary Road will also be completed before the inaugural date,” he said.
Mr Baligar added that of the seven underpasses to be constructed by the BBMP, around four or five would also be completed before the inauguration.
“One or two might still be pending but we are confident that they will be completed soon,” he added.
The visiting team from New Delhi comprising Mr Chawla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, K N Srivastava, K Ramalingam, chairman, Airports Authority of India and Kanu Gohain, director general, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) discussed the issues confronting the operation of the airport.
The airport is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on March 28 and the commercial operations will start on March 30.
