BANGALORE: Bruhant Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has finally thrown open the box underpass near Cauvery junction. Though Governor Rameshwar Thakur could not inaugurate the underpass, Palike threw it open to traffic without any formalities.
Palike has planned four such underpasses to create a signal- free corridor on Bellary Road, leading to the new international airport.
BBMP hyped up the publicity by announcing that these underpasses could be done in 72 hours. But, the one near Cauvery theatre took 34 days.
Palike chief engineer Krishna Reddy told this paper that BBMP would take up underpasses near BDA junction and Windsor Manor in a couple of days. “We plan to start work near BDA junction on Friday and near Windsor Manor a few days later. BBMP needs to discuss the traffic diversion plan with the police,” he said.
Krishna Reddy said that it won’t be much of a problem to work near BDA Junction as the work involves no excavation and hence no hassles with shifting the utility lines. “As for the Windsor Manor location, excavation is needed and BWSSB has told us that they have shifted the water lines,”he said.
