Automen want another fare hike

BANGALORE: Within 11 days after the autorickshaw meter fare was increased from Rs 12 to Rs 14 (for the first two km) and from Rs 6 to Rs 7 per km, auto drivers are again demanding fare revision.

This time, they are asking for Rs 8 per kilometre or minimum fare of Rs 12 for 1.5 km (minimum fare is now Rs 14 is for the first two km).

On Monday, members of the Autorickshaw Driver’s Union staged a protest near Gandhi statue at M G road asking for the hike.

B V Raghavendra, general secretary of the Union said the Government must consider their demands and revise the fare. It must also provide facilities like ESI, BPL cards to autorickshaw drivers and constitute a welfare committee for them, he urged.
