BANGALORE: In order to curb corruption and streamline the process of registration of property documents, the State Government has now decided to introduce e-stamping facility in the State.

The decision was taken at the Governor’s executive committee meeting held here on Friday.

Giving details of the project Inspector General of Stamps and Commissioner of Registration H Shashidhar said the facility would be introduced in eight sub-registrar offices in Bangalore as a pilot project and would start in two to three months.

The system has already been in place in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

E-stamping is an Internet-enabled application, where the certificate of stamp would replace stamp on the document.

The certificate can be printed by a specified local printer, once the stamping system receives the document details and allows people to stamp their documents over the Internet.

It also enables one to pay stamp through credit cards.

If introduced, e-stamping will help curb encroachment of government land, benami transactions and stop leakage of revenue at the source, said an official of revenue department.

Besides, it will also help sub-registrars to reconcile the facts, he added. He said stock holding corporation, a subsidiary of Government of India would be entrusted the work of generation of stamp papers through computers for which it would charge Rs 65 for each registration.

Earlier, Shashidhar told reporters that the state government was also thinking over introducing on-line registration facility in the City.

“This will also be done on a pilot basis and we are waiting for the government’s clearance,” he said.

The department has also taken up digitisation of encumbrance certificates, which are required for availing loans among other things.
