'Keep decisions in abeyance'

'Keep decisions in abeyance'
Bangalore, DHNS:
Bangalore Mahanagara District Congress Committee has urged the Governor to keep decisions taken by BBMP administrator under abeyance till an elected body comes to power.

Former minister Ramalinga Reddy told press on Monday that for the last 14 months, in the absence of an elected body, the administrator has introduced Capital Value System to assess property tax, introduced higher betterment charges, revised fee for sanctioning building plans and sent a proposal to the State government for introduction of storm water drain cess. The decisions are all anti-people. The governor should intervene and annul the resolutions, he demanded.

Mr Reddy said there is no provision in Karnataka Municipalities Corporation Act 1976 to appoint administrator to the Palike after its term is over.

Former minister V Somanna said the Palike has fixed exorbitant fee for taking khata extract and transfer of khata. Betterment charges have been increased 100 per cent.

Former MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao opposed introduction of Capital Value System for property tax assessment. The Palike has fixed 0.5 per cent of guidance value for residential buildings. “As per the guidance value fixed by State government value of 60X40 sqft residential property has been put at Rs 1.2 crore. The owner has to pay Rs 60,000 as property tax.”
