Bangalore: Electricity consumers have reasons to smile. As a New Year gift, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has ordered a reduction in tariff for Bescom consumers.
Going by KERC’s orders on Saturday, the reduction in power tariff ranges from 20 paise per unit to as high as 60 paise per unit in different categories.
The commission has cited high-energy availability from hydro stations and surplus funds with Bescom as reasons for slashing the power tariff. The new tariff will come into effect from Feb 1.
As per the approved annual revenue requirement, the average cost of supply in Bescom would be Rs 3.29 per unit for 2008. The average cost as per the existing tariff (Tariff Order 2005) is Rs 3.56 per unit. For the next two financial years, the tariff will be Rs 3.63 per unit and Rs 3.76 per unit, respectively. Hence, as per this tariff order the average cost for 2007-08 has come down by 27 paise per unit.
A domestic consumer in the city limits consuming 100 units of power would have earlier paid Rs 185 as electricity bill. This will now be reduced to Rs 165.
Since the quality of power supply is not the same in other urban/rural areas, KERC has reduced tariff. Accordingly, Bhagya Jyothi/ Kutir Jyothi tariff has been reduced by 35 paise per unit, while for domestic consumers in village panchayat areas, it is down by 20 paise/unit. No cut in power tariff for HT units
Bangalore: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has ordered a reduction in tariff for Bescom consumers.
The special incentive scheme for HT industries has been continued in Bescom at a reduced rate of Rs 3.55 per unit as against Rs 3.80 paise per unit earlier. For the use of solar heaters, KERC has increased the rebate from the existing 40 Paise to 50 paise per unit, subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 per month.
To grant relief to rice millers, offseason facility has been enhanced from the existing three months to six months. This facility would be applicable to all seasonal industries.
KERC has been following a differential tariff for each of the electric supply companies. The revision has been announced only for Bescom.
